Keep up the hard work Red and Diath, i know technology can sometimes be a hell of a headache, and while people have lost much, at least its all re-obtainable since you reset quests, theres nothing that cant be reearned. Its only a week in, better now, than a month down the road.

I'm sorry, but this is incredibly unfair.
Some players rely on this to get money and items. By constraining this you are tampering with the economy. I spent hours and hours and effort gathering money in the first day to purchase 6 or 7 key properties in hopes of them valuating over time and get items. These are items that i would further share with teammates (as has happened in other resets).
If you come up with the argument that "that's not the way it should be" then I have news for you. It is time + effort in exchange for some leverage to trade.
It's the same thing that the powerhouse team did the first 5 or 10 days, constantly blocking Venore everytime the Cyntarist showed up by slow walling. If somebody managed to get through, they killed him. Hence they got a "Monopoly" on eternal flames, that were being traded for donors at the time.
So that is ok, but a small house business isn't? It was several HOURS of constant effort that first day. It was all I had apart from some donors, so my loss by this is terrible, and not only that, but now you say I couldn't get it back?
If that's the way it is, then with regret I couldn't continue in this sever. My and my friends are out. You value your time? So do I. I knew those things would be worth all of those hours of effort. and now they're gone. I congratulated you on everything that first day, and always help you whenever I find bugs, without asking for things in return. But this is too much.

When the server launches, I do not put any sort of limitation on how many houses can be purchased by a single player (as long as it's 1 per account.) I fully understand that some player's have a unique strategy of purchasing valuable houses and selling them later on. The IP-check I'd like to impose is simply in response to the fact that, at the time I re-activate the !buyhouse command, almost every player would be able to afford almost every house on the map. Imagine if one player owned 75% of the best houses because they had characters logged in and waiting when the command came back up?Red said:

Your post has made me re-evaluate the house ownership aspect of my initial decision. Diath and I do have backups of the database - backups made manually; they are about a week old. So we actually are able to tell which players owned houses within the first day or two of the server version.
We have restored house ownership to players that owned the house before 7/22/16 @ midnight automatically.
This does not affect house items.
Once this restoration is complete, we will re-enable !buyhouse - there will be no "open season" to buying houses come Friday.

Tbh the ot is fresh, two weeks online? Taking in consideration everyone has a higher lv now all the non donor items are actually really easy to get again, if you like the server you will keep playing and with this party weekend( loot and raids) its enough in my opinion, i lost grands crystals and 4 eternal flames but this items are getting cheaper and cheaper, only donors should be a concern and can be tracked easily unless you got them abusing kks fishing .
Chill red you have a group of loyal players who will stay because cyntara is like no other server :)
The reopening chest idea is easily abusable and should not be active, just my opinion

The quest chests can only be reopened once per character; of course, once reopened, the chest will then become empty. My rationale is that a lot of the quests that have been completed this early on in the server's life has likely been done so by our more veteran players, which have little-to-no use for rewards like PoI items. This would simply allow them to get their house decoration or item they'd loan to a friend back.

What happened? - It's the question that I'm sure a lot of you are asking right now, or it will be the question you will be asking when you log into Cyntara.
I try my best to provide this server to my community; I give it my all.
I also try my best to never ask much from my players - perhaps manners and respect - but today I'd like to ask my players two things.
The first, is to please read this post in its entirety.
This morning, when the server activity was low, we deployed an update that we had been working on over the last week or so; the post I was looking forward to making was going to be related to what new and exciting things we have added to Cyntara. Unfortunately, I won't be writing that post today. Instead, I'm writing this one.
As the server was loading up, there was a break in the startup operation when the server's house data was loading. This resulted in every house owner to be removed; and its items destroyed.
We were prepared for this. Cyntara backs up its data every time the server is restarted. We have an entire directory of backed up database files each time this happens. Today, we noticed that the files were created properly, but not filled with any sort of usable data.
In the event that this backup script failed, Cyntara backs up its server files, database, and website files every night at 8pm EST. We were prepared for this. Today, we noticed that the database script has not been working properly - the reason? Before the release of Cyntara 9 we greatly increased the strength of our passwords. The current password for the database did not play nicely with the backup script syntax.
In the event that both backup scripts failed, Cyntara backs up its server files, database, and website files every night (after the 8pm EST backups save) and transfers the files to my personal computer. We were prepared for this. Today, we noticed that the backup script has not been including the database for a similar reason to the other daily backup file, but slightly different.
We were not prepared to face failure on three different levels all at once.
This is where we stand. Restoring from a backup is no longer an option we have.
This is one punch that Diath & I have to take; one punch that I hope a good number of our players are willing to take, along with us.
When I realized that our hands were completely tied, I felt paralyzed. I became upset and frustrated that this could even happen; rather quickly, I felt resolve to those feelings. What I am left with is an overwhelming sadness at what I can only imagine this will do to Cyntara 9 and the players currently enjoying the server. I'm left feeling demoralized and stupid. One step forward, two steps back.
I asked you all one thing at the beginning of this thread. I'd like to ask you one more:
Please tell us what we can do for you.
How can we ebb the frustration and anger? How can we continue to provide for our players to get them through this?
I love Cyntara, and I love seeing our players enjoy Cyntara.
I want to continue doing what I love.
