This is the first time its happened out of many enchants, but I used a medium crystal (absorb) on my slippers and it was succesful, added 3% physical protection. It doesn't show that when I look at the item in enchant details, but it shows when I use a removal tool on it.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Keep in mind that it's just a visual bug not displaying the physical protection in the item description, your character will properly receive the physical protection when the item is equipped. This will be fixed in a future update.
